Bengbu is a city with beautiful natural sceneries. Geographically speaking, Bengbu sits on the south-north dividing line of China in the northern part of Anhui Province. Shuangdun Site on the north bank of Huaihe River is the carrier of a culture with a history 7,300 years. Being one of the birthplaces of Chinese Civilization, 4000 years ago, Bengbu was the place where Yu, together with his vassals, successfully unblocked Huaihe River by breaking open mountains and where Liubang won the decisive battle against Xiangyu. Huagudeng, representing Han nationality in a unique art form, was praised as “Chinese Ballet” and considered as the symbol of Bengbu Culture for its passionate, elegant, ingenious and neat expression.

From 2006 to 2009, the GDP increased by 12% average annual, above-scale industry by 18%, investment in permanent assets by 50%, and revenue by 18.6%. In the first part of this year, Bengbu’s economy and society continue to keep a steady and rapid growth. Investment in permanent assets was 20.4 billion, added by 33.2%, and total retail sales of social consumer goods were 12.7 billion with an increase of 18.0%. Bengbu is a city with great potential. Bengbu has the largest port of Huaihe River and is a Grade A station of Beijing-Shanghai Railway. Bengbu has the first-class large scale cargo marshalling station and the largest container pool in East China. Beijing-Fuzhou Express Railway and Beijing-Shanghai Express Railway under construction both have a station here. Bengbu also has convenient highway systems: No.104 and No. 206 National Highway, together with Beijing-Taipei Highway and Nanjing-Luoyang Highway, link Bengbu closely to the outside.
Bengbu has 5 national scientific research institutes and 91 local scientific research institutes, together with 3 national engineering research centers, 15 provincial engineering research centers, 3 mobile stations for post-doctors and 2 provincial scientific and technological innovation service centers. The 10 institutions of higher learning in Bengbu, together with the 34 various vocational schools in Bengbu, contribute over 20,000 graduates and 23,000 skilled workers each year.
